Outside of his professional career, Ọtúnba Bamgbade served as a board member of Adonai Partners, a non-profit organization focused on humanitarian initiatives in Africa. He enjoys mentoring young professionals and engages in volunteering in community development initiatives. In 2019, he was honored with the chieftaincy title of Ọtúnba Mayegun of Osogbo, Osun State, by HRM Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji, the Ataoja of Osogbo. Profile of Kabiyesi Olowu of Owu
His Royal Majesty, Professor Saka Adelola MATEMILOLA, PhD, FNSE, Oluyalo Otileta VII, is the 14th Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Abeokuta.
Prior to ascending the throne as Olowu, Kabiyesi was an accomplished engineer, scholar and philanthropist. He obtained his first degree in Mechanical Engineering, with First-Class Honours from the University of Ibadan. He also holds an MSc. Degree from the same University. He has PhD in Applied Mechanics from University of Cambridge, UK.
His professional career straddles both academia and industry. He started his working career as a Mechanical Engineer at the Oyo State Ministry of Works & Transport, in Ibadan. He worked briefly as lecturer at the University of Ibadan, and as Reservoir Engineer at Mobil Nigeria Unlimited, Lagos. He was also a lecturer at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. After his PhD studies, he worked as Research Associate at Cambridge University, before moving to University of Southampton University, UK, as Senior Research Fellow. Thereafter, he returned to Nigeria to join the petroleum industry. He spent a considerable part of his working career with Shell Development Company and subsequently with FIRST Exploration & Production Company.
Kabiyesi is an active academia and has authored over 30 technical publications, mostly in renowned international journals. He was a visiting scholar at the Centre of Excellence in Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering (CoE), University of Benin and at the institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS), University of Port Harcourt. He was also a visiting Associate Professor at African University of Science and Technology, Abuja, and an adjunct faculty at the Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Ibadan. He is a Distinguished Member of Society of Petroleum Engineers, and on the Trustee Board of Society of Petroleum Engineers, Nigeria Council. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
Kabiyesi is an ardent believer in community based social and economic development. He has a lifetime dedication to improving the wellbeing of his people, especially now that he has taken on the role of a full time public servant. He has initiated various major projects that are designed to raise the standard of education in his communities. He has also been championing wide-ranging activities that have been providing and enhancing technical and entrepreneurial skills of his people. He has also evolved projects to expand, deepen and make primary healthcare services more effective in his communities. As part of his desire to empower his people, he has also been providing work equipment, as well as micro-finance facilities to small scale businesses.
